Virtual Design Challenge

Taylor King, Woodbridge and KingsHaven Announce Virtual Design Challenge

May 2020 – Seeking to inspire and support the design community during this difficult time of social distancing and scaled-back business, three leading home furnishings design brands have teamed up to sponsor a Virtual Design Challenge.

Launched via Facebook on April 29, the contest invites interior designers to create a luxurious Paris living room using upholstery from Taylor King; case goods, dining and occasional furniture from Woodbridge Furniture; and lighting from KingsHaven. Designers may choose from these 13 KingsHaven lights. The budget for creating these virtual, Paris-inspired living rooms is unlimited. Participants are encouraged to use their imaginations to their fullest in coming up with their “dream scheme.”

The grand-prize winner will receive an award of $2,250. The prize consists of $750 in cash, $750 in product credit from the three contest sponsors and a $750 donation to a charity of the winner’s choice.

In addition, five semifinalists will each have their designs brought to life by Danae Designs in a one-of-a-kind watercolor rendering. Ten semifinalists will win a private Zoom cocktail party with high-profile designers Tobi Fairley and Lauren Liess.

“We want to encourage and express our gratitude to the design community right now by giving them an engaging outlet for their boundless talent and creative spirit,” said Del Starnes, president of Taylor King. “This unique contest will provide a vehicle for meaningful social media collaboration, creating new online content for designers to share with their followers. Designers also can win valuable prizes that reward their efforts.”

“At KingsHaven, we are honored to co-sponsor the Virtual Design Challenge in recognition of the design industry’s continued pursuit of mindfully designed beautiful spaces and peer connections despite adversity,” said Lauren Wylonis, founder, chief executive officer and lead lighting designer with KingsHaven. “We invite participants to conceptualize their designs using our light fixtures to create their interpretations of livable luxury.”

To participate in the contest, designers simply submit a Google Doc or PowerPoint presentation of up to four slides depicting their dream Paris living room. Each submission must be created using product from the three contest sponsors.

“It’s always so exciting to see how talented designers use our products to define a room or space,” said Cass Key, creative director of Woodbridge Furniture. “We can’t wait to see the results of their efforts.”

Designers should submit their entries by or before May 31 via email to Woodbridge Furniture’s Cass Key at [email protected]. Winners will be announced on June 10.
